An Uzbek woman who had traveled to Turkey to work as a domestic worker was nearly trafficked by another woman, N.A., for illicit purposes. This was reported by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul.
It was noted that on April 14 of this year, the Uzbek citizen contacted a woman named N.A. online, and at her suggestion, traveled to Istanbul in the hope of finding work in Turkey. The victim was offered employment as a domestic worker in a Turkish family. However, upon arrival in Istanbul, N.A. took her to the city of Şanlıurfa, where she attempted to traffic her to local criminal groups for illicit purposes.
The Consulate General received information about the case from active bloggers on social media. As a result of the prompt measures taken by the Consulate, the woman was safely transported back to Istanbul and subsequently returned to Uzbekistan.
“The Consulate General once again urges our compatriots not to travel abroad through foreign intermediaries, to carefully assess any job offers, and to seek employment only through official sources,” the report states.
It should be recalled that earlier, a teenage girl who was lured to Turkey through fraud and forced into prostitution was also returned to Uzbekistan after falling into a difficult situation.
