The trial of a man accused of beating a citizen outside a nightclub in Tashkent, leaving him in a coma, will be held behind closed doors, the press secretary of the Supreme Court, Aziz Obidov, reported.

Earlier it was reported that a fight broke out in front of a nightclub in Tashkent. A man who attempted to separate the participants was assaulted and later hospitalized with a diagnosis of brain injury, a laceration to the right cheek, and alcohol poisoning.

The defendant, identified as A.Sh., born in 1995, has been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code:

 Article 104 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm), Part 2, Clause “e”;
 Article 168 (fraud), Part 3, Clauses “a”, “g”, and Part 4, Clause “a”;
 Article 277 (hooliganism), Part 3, Clause “g”.

His case is being considered by the Mirzo Ulugbek District Court for Criminal Cases.

According to Obidov, at a court hearing on September 4, the defendant’s lawyers argued that personal and family details could be revealed during the trial. They requested the proceedings be held in camera to protect family members and to uphold the presumption of innocence. The presiding judge granted the request, and the court session was held behind closed doors.

“It is announced that a fair and lawful court decision will be issued based on the results of the case. Since this matter is of public concern, additional information will be provided in the media regarding the outcome of the trial,” the Supreme Court statement said.

The incident took place on March 16 this year. At around 02:30, A.Sh., visiting a restaurant in Yakkasaroy district, got into a dispute with his acquaintance H.A., born in 1985. When B.A., born in 1990, attempted to intervene, A.Sh. struck him, causing serious injuries.
