Tukhumbarak receives official geographical indication status

9070The Ministry of Justice has officially registered "tukhumbarak", a traditional dish from the Khorezm region, as a geographical indication. The announcement was made today, June 13.
This dish is recognized for its unique method of preparation, distinctive ingredients, and deep roots in ancient culinary traditions. Tukhumbarak is especially popular among the people of the Khorezm region, reflecting the area’s rich cultural and gastronomic heritage.
The registration as a geographical indication provides legal protection for tukhumbarak, helping to preserve its authenticity, ensure its quality, and promote it as a regional brand of Khorezm.
For reference, the Ministry of Justice is the authorized agency responsible for the legal protection of geographical indications. According to the Law "On Geographical Indications," such a designation identifies a product as originating from a specific geographic location, with its quality, reputation, or other characteristics being closely linked to its place of origin.
It is worth noting that other traditional Uzbek foods have previously been registered as geographical indications. These include "Gijduvon shashlik" on August 24, 2023, "Guzor tandoori meat" on January 8, 2024, and the globally recognized "Samarkand bread" on February 4 of this year.
