Uzbekistan merges three medical universities to form Tashkent State Medical University

16158Uzbekistan is set to restructure its medical education system by merging three existing universities into a single institution—Tashkent State Medical University. This transformation was formalized under the decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 22, aimed at modernizing medical education and training.
Under the new decree:
- Tashkent Medical Academy, Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and Tashkent State Dental Institute will be merged to form Tashkent State Medical University.
- The Central Scientific Research Laboratory of Tashkent Medical Academy will be restructured into the Medical Scientific and Innovative Research Institute.
- Tashkent Medical Academy’s Urgench branch will be rebranded as Urgench State Medical Institute.
- The multi-disciplinary clinics of Tashkent Medical Academy, Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and Tashkent State Dental Institute will now operate under Tashkent State Medical University.
- Termiz and Chirchik branches of Tashkent Medical Academy will be renamed as branches of the new university.
- Academic lyceums of the three former institutions will now function as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Academic Lyceums of Tashkent State Medical University.
The primary objective of the new university will be to align medical education programs with international standards, incorporating competency-based curricula.
From the 2025-2026 academic year, students currently enrolled in the three institutions will continue their studies at the new university, and graduating students will receive official diplomas from the newly established university.
Additionally, a Development Fund for Tashkent State Medical University will be established, financed by donations and sponsorships to support academic growth and infrastructure improvements.
