Recent reports alleged that the Tashkent branch of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas was conducting pro-war propaganda against Ukraine. In response, the university’s press service has issued an official statement denying the claims.

“It was determined that the person named in the appeal is not among the students of the branch. It was also determined that the information about ‘propaganda’ during classes provided in the appeal is unfounded, that is, it does not correspond to reality. The educational process at the branch is organized on the basis of the established curriculum and subject program,” the statement read.

The administration of the Tashkent branch also emphasized that it is open to cooperation with the media and is committed to transparency.

As previously reported, an individual identifying himself as Muhidjon claimed to be a student at the university and told Meduza that since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, speeches supportive of the Russian military had been delivered regularly at the institution. According to him, an elderly speaker frequently praised the actions of Russian troops and expressed admiration for Lenin’s legacy and what he referred to as “Great Russian chauvinism.”
