Person selling coffee containing psychotropic substances detained

A suspect has been detained in Tashkent for selling products containing the potent substance sibutramine, according to the State Customs Committee.

According to the report, a citizen voluntarily approached customs authorities and handed over nearly 13,500 units of two types of weight-loss dietary supplements. Laboratory tests conducted by the Central Customs Laboratory confirmed that the supplements contained sibutramine, a strong pharmacologically active substance.

To determine the origin of the products, оперативe search measures were carried out in Uchtepa district, where the individual who sold the supplements was identified.

During inspections of the suspect’s stores, conducted in accordance with established procedures and in the presence of witnesses, officials discovered nearly 29,000 units of 12 types of dietary supplements and sports nutrition products worth about half a billion soums that lacked customs clearance and quality certification documents.

Among the seized goods were 96 packages containing 2,880 units of coffee, which were also found to contain sibutramine.

A criminal case has been opened by the customs authorities.

Earlier, authorities reported the detention of a 19-year-old woman in Tashkent who allegedly attempted to smuggle narcotics hidden inside sweets.
