A man who falsely claimed to be an employee of the State Security Service and offered to assist with customs clearance was apprehended in Tashkent, the agency reported.
According to the report, during an operation in the capital, a 1985-born resident of Namangan introduced himself as a State Security Service officer. He claimed that, through his connections in the Personal Security Department of the Customs Committee, he could facilitate customs procedures for goods imported under the name of a private enterprise registered in the Namangan region.
During a joint operation by the State Security Service and customs authorities, the suspect was caught red-handed receiving $1,000 from the head of the enterprise—$500 per consignment—under false pretenses.
Further investigation revealed that he had previously collected $1,000 from the same enterprise head, claiming it was payment for expediting the customs clearance of auto spare parts imported from abroad.
A criminal case has been initiated against him, and an investigation is currently underway.
It is worth noting that a similar case occurred recently in the Kashkadarya region, where a man wearing an Internal Affairs uniform and posing as a senior lieutenant was detained for defrauding citizens.
