Individuals detained for attempting to distribute intimate videos of a 67-year-old man in Tashkent

Individuals who allegedly blackmailed a 67-year-old man by threatening to distribute his intimate photos and videos have been detained in the Tashkent region, Zamon reported.

According to reports, the оперативe search service of the Tashkent District Department of Internal Affairs received a complaint from a citizen born in 1959, stating that unknown persons had been extorting money from him. During the investigation, it was established that one member of the group gained the victim’s trust and obtained intimate photos and videos involving the man. The suspects then allegedly threatened to publish the materials on social media and demanded $2,000 through blackmail.

The group initially obtained $1,500 through extortion. They were detained by оперативe officers while attempting to collect the remaining $500.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 165 of the Criminal Code (extortion), and a preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied. The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, authorities reported that a man in the Denov district of the Surkhandarya region had been detained for allegedly attempting to extort $6,000 by threatening to distribute a video of a woman he knew engaging in sexual relations with an unidentified man.
