Residents warned after air quality worsens in Tashkent and Andijan

On November 11, air pollution levels in Tashkent and Andijan significantly exceeded safe limits, prompting the Uzbekistan Hydrometeorology Center to issue a public warning.

As of 9:00 am, data from automatic monitoring stations indicated that in Tashkent:

  • PM10 fine particulate matter reached 189 micrograms per cubic meter, which is below the permissible limit of micrograms per cubic meter.
  • PM2.5 fine particulate matter reached 143 micrograms per cubic meter, exceeding the permissible limit of 60 micrograms per cubic meter by 2.4 times.

As of 10 am, data from the automatic monitoring station in Andijan indicated that PM10 fine particulate matter in the atmosphere reached 502 micrograms per cubic meter, exceeding the annual permissible limit by 1.5 times.

PM2.5 fine particulate matter reached three hundred fourteen micrograms per cubic meter, exceeding the annual permissible limit by 8.9 times.

Residents and visitors of these cities are advised to take precautions, including limiting outdoor activities and wearing masks when going outside.

It should be recalled that on November 10th, Tashkent was reported to rank second among the world’s largest cities in terms of air pollution levels.
