17973The total population of Afghanistan is 34.3 million people. According to UN data, currently, 22.8 million Afghans are chronically undernourished, and 8.7 million people suffer from hunger. Since the beginning of the "Taliban" rule, 700 civilians have been killed in the country, and about 1,500 civilians have been injured.
It is known that the government of Afghanistan led by Ashraf Ghani was overthrown in August last year, and the president fled the country. On 15 August, "The Taliban" took power.
Today we witnessed a historical event in Tashkent. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev again drew the attention of the world community to Afghanistan. An international conference on "Afghanistan: security and economic development" was held in Tashkent. Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country's interim government, Amir Khan Muttaqi, took part in it. It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan has held several conferences on achieving peace in Afghanistan, and this is the first time that a representative of the Taliban will participate.
Several "messages" were given at the conference. In particular, the president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated in his address that "The Afghan government should ensure the basic human rights of national minorities, especially women and girls, that girls should go to secondary school, that they have the right to work and to freedom of movement." He called on the government to take drastic measures to prevent and fight against all forms and aspects of terrorism.
Amir Muttaqi said that the territory of Afghanistan will no longer pose a threat to Uzbekistan and other countries in the region. He called on the United States to lift the ban on Afghan assets blocked in foreign banks. At the same time, 7 billion dollars from Afghanistan has been frozen by the United States, and according to Zamir Kabulov, the special representative of the president of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan, it is a crime to steal 7 billion dollars from a country whose residents earn less than 1 dollar a day.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the participants of the conference and informed that the organization will continue to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and establish peace in this country.
So, are the promises made by the representative of "The Taliban" to the world community believable? Will the new Afghanistan meet the requirements? Will Afghanistan's promises of peace and stability remain in force even if the US does not return $7 billion? What role will the big powers like Russia and China play in this? QALAMPIR.UZ contacted to Eldor Tulyakov, director of the Development Strategy Center, with these questions.
