Judge accused of drunk driving and theft: Supreme Council responds

A Tajik citizen has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison for stealing a car while intoxicated in Termez, Surkhandarya region. The incident was reported by "Mening Yurtim".

According to the report, the 44-year-old man, who was temporarily residing in Termez, stole a Cobalt vehicle belonging to a taxi driver. He had boarded the taxi with his companion while under the influence of alcohol and continued drinking during the ride. The passenger then engaged the driver in a verbal dispute. Taking advantage of the moment when the driver stepped out of the vehicle, he seized the opportunity to steal the car.

When the taxi driver pursued the stolen car in a Spark vehicle, the suspect damaged the Spark during the chase and continued driving the stolen Cobalt. Authorities later detected the vehicle being driven in the Ayritom neighborhood of the Termez district.

As officers from the Regional Traffic Safety Department attempted to intercept him, the man made another attempt to flee. He reversed the car, hitting a stationary Cobalt parked on the roadside, causing further damage.

The case was reviewed by the Termez District Court for Criminal Cases. The defendant was convicted under Part 1 of Article 267 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (hijacking a vehicle), with a lighter sentence imposed under Article 57. He was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. The damages caused to three vehicles during the incident were fully compensated.

It is worth noting that a separate incident involving the theft of comedian Shukurullo Isroilov’s car in Tashkent had also been reported earlier. In that case, the perpetrator received a sentence of two years in prison.
