Social media has been circulating reports alleging that a judge in Tashkent got drunk and stole a car. The Supreme Council of Judges has issued an official statement regarding the incident.

It has been reported that, in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Judges, an internal investigation is currently being conducted into the off-duty actions of a judge of the Mirabad District Court for Criminal Cases in Tashkent City.

“The circumstances mentioned in the social media posts on this topic will be clarified during the internal investigation, and appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings,” the statement reads.

For reference, according to Article 267 of the Criminal Code (unauthorized use of a vehicle), hijacking a vehicle is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

It is also worth noting that it was previously reported that the senior assistant prosecutor of Jondor District in the Bukhara Region demanded $3,000 in exchange for ensuring that a first-instance court verdict remained unchanged in the cassation court through a judge.
