Following the tariff hike in May, Uzbekistan saw a significant decline in electricity and gas consumption, as reported by Energy Minister Jorabek Mirzamahmudov during a television interview.

Minister Mirzamahmudov stated that from May 1 to 29, electricity consumption dropped by 324 million kWh compared to the same timeframe the previous year. He highlighted that this reduction occurred despite an increase in the number of subscribers, suggesting that the population is conserving energy.

The minister also pointed out that electricity production in Uzbekistan is on the rise, with 970 million kWh generated from renewable sources, an increase of 700 million kWh compared to the same period last year.

"We successfully reduced electricity imports and maintained export levels without affecting domestic consumption. A similar trend is seen with gas, where consumption decreased by 125 million cubic meters despite an increase in the number of subscribers," he remarked.

It is worth noting that, beginning on May 1, Uzbekistan implemented a simultaneous increase in electricity and gas tariffs for individuals, along with the introduction of social norms.
