Coins found in Surkhandarya are reported to date back to the time of Mirzo Ulugbek

Earlier, it was reported that «the Treasure of Mirzo Ulugbek» was found on the bank of the To’palang River in the Surkhandarya region. The information was checked by the prosecutor’s office.

On 2 March, local residents found copper coins on the bank of the To'palang River, flowing through the territory of the Sariasia district of the Surkhandarya region.

On 3 March, representatives of the Agency of Cultural Heritage, the State Museum of Art of Uzbekistan and the Termez Archaeological Museum confiscated 512 copper coins from the local population and handed them over to the Archaeological Museum Fund in Termez.
An additional 620 copper coins and a chess piece were voluntarily seized and handed over to the museum fund during a joint investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office and a group of representatives.

It was reported that a special expedition was organized with the staff of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Department of Cultural Heritage and the Museum of Archaeology, and excavations are underway.
“On 9 March of the current year, the expedition found four copper coins.

Archaeologists have concluded that coins minted during the reign of Mirzo Ulugbek (15th century) are the largest and most well-preserved treasures of cultural heritage to date”-the report from the General Prosecutor’s Office says.

It is stated that research work is being carried out, and the situation is under the control of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
