Assistant mayor sentenced for fraud in Surkhandarya

An assistant mayor in Surkhandarya has been sentenced after being caught accepting a bribe in exchange for facilitating a preferential loan. The verdict was announced by Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.

The assistant mayor, who worked in the "Yakkaterak" neighborhood of the Kyzyryk district, had promised to secure a 33-million-soum loan for a citizen. In return, he was apprehended while receiving a bribe of 4.5 million sums.

According to the ruling by the Kyzyryk District Court, the assistant mayor was sentenced to two years of corrective labor under Article 45 of the Criminal Code, as well as an additional two years under Article 168, Part 3, Clause "c" (fraud and abuse of official position).

In addition to the sentence, he was banned from holding positions that involve management and financial responsibilities, and 20 percent of his income will be withheld.

It should be noted that earlier in Tashkent, an assistant to the mayor was arrested while accepting a $30,000 bribe.
