Agrobank manager and six assistant governors jailed for embezzlement

An assistant to the governor, an engineer, and an agriculture official in Surkhandarya region have been detained on bribery charges, the State Security Service reported.

According to the information, the assistant to the governor of one of the neighborhoods in the Sariosiyo district abused his official position by gaining the trust of a citizen born in 1996. He allegedly promised to secure a 30-year lease on 2.5 hectares of irrigated land from the district administration’s reserve through his official connections in exchange for 29 million soums. During an operational measure, the governor’s assistant was caught red-handed while receiving the requested amount, with physical evidence secured.

During the pre-investigation inspection, it was revealed that the money was intended for the engineer of the ’’Survilerloyiha’’ branch of the ’’Uzdaverloyiha’’ scientific design institute, as well as the head of the agriculture department’s division in Sariosiyo district. The operation was then extended, and both the engineer and the division head were detained while receiving the money, putting an end to their illegal activities.

Currently, a criminal case has been opened against these individuals under Article 168 (fraud) and Article 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code, and investigative proceedings are underway.

It is worth noting that earlier, the deputy governor of Peshku district, Bukara region, was arrested while receiving $6,000.
