7626A man in the Syrdarya region has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for shaving his ex-wife's hair and beating himself in an incident of domestic violence. The information was shared by Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.
The man, a physical education teacher in Gulistan, had two wives. Following a quarrel, he forcibly shaved his first wife’s hair and physically assaulted her. Although the couple divorced in 2021, the woman continued to live with their five children in an apartment in Gulistan. At the time, the man had married another woman under Sharia law and brought her into their home.
While intoxicated, the man became suspicious that his ex-wife was texting other men and subjected her to both mental and physical abuse.
The Gulistan City Criminal Court found the man guilty of polygamy (Article 126) and domestic violence (Article 126-1) under the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
This case follows a recent conviction in Samarkand, where a man was sentenced to 19 years in prison for killing his 23-year-old wife with a hoe.
