Shuhrat Kholmukhammedov was appointed as a Minister of Defense

Shuhrat Gayratjonovich Kholmukhammedov has been appointed as the Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan, according to sources from QALAMPIR.UZ has confirmed.

Kholmukhammedov, who was promoted to the rank of Major General by a presidential decree on March 23, 2021, previously served as the First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

Throughout his career, Kholmukhammedov has held several high-ranking positions, including, Deputy Minister of Defense, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan, and Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the "For Loyal Services" medal in 2016.

This appointment comes following the reassignment of former Minister of Defense Bahadir Nizomovich Kurbanov, who was recently named chairman of the State Security Service. The previous head of the SSS, Lieutenant General Abdusalom Azizov, was dismissed from his post.
