Shavkat Mirziyoyev awarded Georgia’s highest state honor

On July 2, as part of events held in Tbilisi, a ceremony was held to award President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev Georgia’s highest state honor — the Order of the Golden Fleece. The Presidential Press Service reported this.

It was noted that the award was presented to the head of state by Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili for his outstanding contribution to the development of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia.

The Uzbek leader expressed gratitude to Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili for the high award, and wished the friendly people of Georgia peace, well-being and prosperity.

For reference, the Order of the Golden Fleece, established in 1998, is one of the country’s highest state awards. It is presented for special services in strengthening relations with foreign states and international organizations, as well as promoting Georgian culture, science and art.

The name of the order is associated with the ancient Greek myth of the Golden Fleece and Colchis, a historical region located in present-day Georgia.

Over the years, this high award has been presented to Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, King Abdullah II of Jordan, German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev and others.

The Uzbek leader also wrote his sincere wishes in the Book of Honored Guests at the Orbeliani Palace.

Earlier, it was reported that a solemn ceremony to officially welcome President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had been held at the Orbeliani Palace, the residence of the President of Georgia, in Tbilisi. It was also reported that, as part of the state visit to Georgia, talks were held between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili at the Orbeliani Palace in Tbilisi.
