7473A significant fire erupted at the Tashkent State Agrarian University, located in the Qibray district of the Tashkent region, marking one of the largest fires in Uzbekistan's history. The QALAMPIR.UZ team was present at the scene to gather information.
The Emergency Department received a report of the fire on September 30 at 20:10. Fire and rescue crews arrived on-site within seven minutes. It took over an hour to bring the blaze under control, which was contained by 21:36.
The fire, initially reported by the Ministry of Agriculture as originating from one of the university's buildings, was claimed to have started on the roof of the Jaligi Agency building. However, the ministry later retracted this statement.
The Forestry Agency clarified that the fire did not originate from their premises.
"Reports circulating on some social media platforms claiming that the Forestry Agency's building has burned down are untrue. While the roof of the building sustained partial damage from water spraying, it is not significant," the report states.
Damage was reported in the university buildings where the fire started, but the agency's structure was not seriously affected. A team of specialists is currently assessing the situation, and more information regarding the cause of the fire, its origin, and the extent of the damage is expected to be released soon.
As of now, there are no reports of injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident.
While leaving the scene, an unnamed eyewitness shared a concerning perspective with QALAMPIR.UZ. He speculated that the tragedy might have been staged.
"Some investigation came to the laboratory. I didn't know whether they were checking all the teachers or hiding something. It seems wrong for teachers to do such things for their benefit," he said.
