Plane bound for Samarkand makes emergency landing in Moscow

On January 7, a Boeing 737 en route from St. Petersburg, Russia, to Samarkand made an emergency landing at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport due to a technical malfunction. The incident was reported by UTAir.

The Boeing 737, carrying 173 passengers, was forced to land after a stabilizer malfunction was detected by the crew. Following an inspection and necessary repairs by specialists, the plane is expected to resume its journey.

According to the Flightradar portal, the plane circled several times near the city of Vereya before safely landing at Vnukovo.

Recent plane crashes

On December 29, a plane carrying 181 passengers crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea. The aircraft skidded off the runway and collided with a barrier outside, where it caught fire.

The Jeju Air flight, which was returning from Bangkok, Thailand, was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. Of the passengers, 173 were South Korean and two were Thai. Prior to the crash, the Boeing aircraft had reported an emergency on board. After making an emergency landing, the plane continued its flight. Tragically, the crash resulted in 179 fatalities, with only two survivors: a passenger and a crew member.

Meanwhile, a PAL Airlines flight from St. John’s made an emergency landing at Halifax Airport after its wing struck the runway and the plane burst into flames. Halifax Airport was temporarily closed as a result of the incident. All passengers and crew were safely disembarked, but the number of individuals on board is not yet confirmed.

On the same day, a Boeing 737-800 operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was forced to make an emergency landing in Norway due to a hydraulic system malfunction. The flight, traveling from Oslo to Amsterdam, was diverted to Sandefjord Airport, located 110 km south of the Norwegian capital. Although the plane successfully landed, it overshot runway 18 and came to a halt on a grassy area. There were 182 people on board, including passengers and crew, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Crash of an Embraer 190 

On December 30, a four-seat Cessna C-172 crashed in Stuttgart, Germany, injuring two people. The pilot sustained minor injuries, while a 70-year-old passenger was hospitalized in serious condition.

On December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed with 62 passengers and five crew members on board. The crash claimed 38 lives, with 29 survivors. Initial reports indicated that the crash was caused by a collision with a flock of birds. However, later reports from Euronews, citing Azerbaijani government sources, suggested that a surface-to-air missile, allegedly launched by Russia, was the cause of the crash. The airline confirmed that both external physical factors and technical issues were the primary causes of the Embraer 190 crash.
