A total of 17,500 hectares from Oqdaryo, Payariq, Pastdargom, Toyloq, and Samarkand districts will be incorporated into Samarkand city. As a result, the city’s population is expected to increase from 604,000 to 882,000. This announcement was made on November 25 during an extraordinary session of the Samarkand Regional Council of People’s Deputies, attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Urgut district.

To meet the growing demand for modern housing, three large residential districts have been selected. In the Shirin district, housing will accommodate 180,000 people; in the Temiryo‘l Orti area, 100,000 people; and in the Qorasuv-2 district, 30,000 people. Over 700 modern multi-story buildings will be constructed across these areas.

Next year, 49 regional government agencies in Samarkand will relocate to the Shirin district. By the end of this year, a 577-meter bridge over the Qoradaryo River, connecting the district with the city center, will be completed. In partnership with Spanish investors, the sewer systems in all three districts will be upgraded.

To reduce heavy transport traffic in the city, four logistics centers will be built along the main road passing through Oqdaryo, Toyloq, and Samarkand districts.

Additionally, an extra 90 hectares adjoining the “Yangi Uzbekistan” district in Urgut’s Quyi Kamangarom neighborhood will be allocated for a new modern eco-city designed to accommodate 100,000 residents. The development will include roads, water supply, sewage systems, electricity, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and other infrastructure, with $50 million allocated for business projects.

A three-hectare administrative center will be constructed in the new city for 35 district organizations. Their vacated buildings will be offered to the private sector for commercial use.

It is worth noting that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Samarkand on November 25 to review socio-economic reforms and set future priorities with active participation from officials. The visit began with a ceremony at Imam Bukhari’s mausoleum, including Quran recitation and prayers. The President also inspected reconstruction works at the Mahdumi Azam complex in Dahbed town of Oqdaryo district and laid flowers at the memorial of Uzbekistan’s First President Islam Karimov at the Hazrati Hizr complex.
