Drug traffickers sentenced to 16 years in Samarkand

1988In the Urgut district of Samarkand, individuals involved in transporting drugs from Tajikistan to Uzbekistan have been arrested and sentenced to prison. The news was reported by UzA.
According to the authorities, D.A., a resident of Urgut district, traveled to the Panjikent district in Tajikistan under instructions from an individual currently facing criminal charges. There, D.A. paid $20,000 for 20 kilograms and 747 grams of opium from a drug dealer, who had initially agreed to sell the narcotic for $100,000. D.A. then transported the drugs back to Uzbekistan, claiming he needed to deliver them near the Uzbek-Tajik border.
A day later, D.A. and S.M., a Tajik citizen, were arrested while returning to Uzbekistan with the opium, which had been delivered by drug couriers to the agreed location.
During the investigation, it was revealed that J.R., another resident of Urgut district, was also involved in the operation.
The Urgut District Court for Criminal Cases found D.A. and S.M. guilty under Articles 25, 273, 223, and 246 of the Criminal Code and sentenced each to 16 years and 6 months in prison. J.R. was found guilty under Articles 28, 25, 273, and 28, 246, and was also sentenced to 16 years in prison.
Earlier, drug couriers from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan were also arrested. Criminal cases were initiated, and imprisonment was imposed as a preventive measure.
