Samarkand to allocate 1.2 trillion soums for infrastructure

Samarkand region plans to allocate 1.2 trillion soums to create convenient infrastructure for the population. The proposal was made during a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on June 10 on measures to comprehensively develop the territories of Samarkand region and improve living standards in remote and outlying districts.

It was noted at the meeting that creating convenient infrastructure for residents is one of the main priorities. For this purpose, a proposal was made to allocate 1.2 trillion soums for the construction of social facilities, improvement of roads, drinking water and sewerage networks, electricity supply, implementation of service and renovation projects, and provision of infrastructure for industrial projects.

In Samarkand city, the task was set to approve within one month a master plan to transform the Kimyogarlar settlement into a more comfortable area for residents under the renovation program. Instructions were also given to expand the territory of the Yangi O‘zbekiston residential area under construction in Bulungur district and to establish sports, cultural, music and art facilities by the end of the year on vacant land and in unused buildings in Samarkand city’s Temiryo‘l orti area.

The establishment of a fund under the regional administration for the construction and repair of social sector facilities was also approved. Funds saved from projects implemented under Samarkand region’s socio-economic development programs will be directed to this fund.

The meeting also heard reports from responsible officials. The head of state gave specific instructions on fully using the available opportunities in each district of Samarkand region, creating new jobs, increasing household incomes and reducing economic disparities between territories.

Earlier, it was reported that 13 streets in Samarkand’s historic center are planned to be turned into pedestrian zones, with new tourism and service facilities to be built there.
