11395In Samarkand’s Pastdargom district, four members of a family suffered from botulism after consuming homemade canned food, resulting in one death, according to a report from the "Zamon" program.
The family—a couple and their two children from the Mangitabad neighborhood—were admitted to the local infectious diseases hospital on November 1 with symptoms of food poisoning.
Testing confirmed that they had botulism, a serious and potentially fatal foodborne illness. Tragically, the youngest child passed away in the hospital.
A doctor from the district's infectious diseases hospital suggested the child’s death may have been due to an unrelated illness, noting that the child did not consume canned food and had symptoms of a cold.
An official from the District Sanitation and Epidemiology Department stated that poisoning was the cause of death, indicating a possible diagnostic error by the hospital.
This follows a recent incident in Uzbekistan’s Fergana region, where four individuals suffered food poisoning after consuming hot dogs for lunch.
