A 16-year-old girl has died after undergoing nasal surgery at a hospital in Samarkand. The girl's mother confirmed the tragic incident to QALAMPIR.UZ.
According to the mother, on July 1, the girl—born in 2009—visited the Central Regional Hospital with her grandmother due to difficulty breathing. Doctors reportedly recommended surgery. The operation was carried out on July 3 at 11:30 a.m.
The girl's grandmother attempted several times to get information about her condition during the procedure but was told the girl had not yet “regained consciousness.” Later, the family was informed that the girl's heart had failed during the operation. Her mother insists her daughter was previously healthy and is calling for those responsible to be held accountable.
It was reported that the girl was a medical student at a foreign university and had returned to Uzbekistan during the holidays to stay with her grandmother. At the time of the incident, both parents were abroad.
According to the Samarkand Regional Prosecutor's Office, a forensic medical examination has been commissioned to determine the cause of death. An internal investigation has also been launched into the actions of medical staff at the Regional Multidisciplinary Medical Center. The Samarkand City Prosecutor’s Office is currently conducting a preliminary investigation into the case.
As a reminder, earlier, a 32-year-old employee of the prosecutor’s office died after undergoing nasal surgery at a private clinic in the Fergana region.
