14906Salim Abduvaliev, widely known as "Salimboyvachcha," has been released from prison, according to a report by QALAMPIR.UZ.
Due to his deteriorating health, Abduvaliev was granted release on January 12, 2025, in accordance with Article 75 of the Criminal Code. This provision allows for the release of individuals from punishment if they suffer from illness or a loss of working capacity.
Abduvaliev was detained on December 1, 2023, when law enforcement authorities took him from his residence in the Fayzabad suburb of Tashkent. His arrest occurred during the “40-day urgent” measures that were launched in November to address rising crime and improve the criminogenic situation in Uzbekistan.
On March 19, 2024, the Mirabad District Court for Criminal Cases concluded the trial of Abduvaliev's criminal case and issued its verdict.
As per the court’s decision, Abduvaliev was absolved of criminal liability for the charges related to smuggling under Part 1 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code, due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for the crime. Consequently, this portion of the case was dismissed in accordance with Part 1, Paragraph 1 of Article 84 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which provides grounds for terminating a criminal case without a determination of guilt.
However, Abduvaliev was found guilty of violating Part 2 of Article 248 of the Criminal Code for the illegal trafficking of firearms, ammunition, explosives, and related devices. For this offense, he was sentenced to six years in a general regime colony.
