Saida Mirziyoyeva meets with Ursula von der Leyen

On October 9, Saida Mirziyoyeva, the head of the Presidential administration of Uzbekistan, met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels. She shared the news on her social media page.

’’I was pleased to have a conversation with Ms. von der Leyen and am confident that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Europe will continue to strengthen,’’ Mirziyoyeva wrote.

The meeting between Saida Mirziyoyeva and Ursula von der Leyen took place within the framework of the Global Gateway forum, which is being held on October 9–10 in Brussels. Building on the success of the inaugural forum in 2023, this year’s event focuses on the European Union’s external investment initiatives. The 2024 edition addresses issues of global connectivity and infrastructure development amid current geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges.

They had previously met in April of this year during the first high-level Central Asia–European Union summit held in Samarkand. At that time, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev introduced his eldest daughter to Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa.
