On April 21, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva held a meeting with Bo Mathiasen, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, on the sidelines of an international forum on combating drug threats in Samarkand. Mirziyoyeva announced the meeting on her Telegram channel.
According to her statement, the talks focused on expanding cooperation in combating drug-related threats, organized crime, cybercrime, and corruption. The sides also discussed the possibility of transforming the Samarkand forum into a permanent platform for dialogue.
In addition, confidence was expressed that Uzbekistan’s election to the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice would create new opportunities for strengthening practical cooperation.
It is worth noting that on April 20, during the global forum titled “Combating Transnational Drug Threats: Ensuring Public Health and Safety,” it was announced that the headquarters of the Central Asian Association of Narcologists would be established in the region.
Mirziyoyeva also held a meeting with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, as part of the same international forum in Samarkand.
