11072In 2022, the State budget provided 120 billion som of subsidies to students living in rented accommodation. In other words, in the last two months, the rectors of higher education universities received 24 billion som. However, only 5 billion som was paid for the students' rent. President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this on 4 March, at a video conference discussing measures to improve the living standards of students in higher education institutions.
«In 2021 the system of dormitories was established. However, the work was not carried out in all regions equally», – the President stated this at the meeting.
It is noted that only 90,000 needy students have been provided with dormitories up to now. For example, 47 hostels for 19,000 students have been planned to be built for 2022 in private partnership with a budget of 180 billion som for subsidies.
The Head of State criticized the fact that no work had been initiated today in areas other than Andijan, Samarkand and Tashkent regions.

«Within a month, the head of the region and the rector of the university who didn't advance the work will be fired», Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
They say that if the rector of the university initiates the building of 50% of dormitories at the expense of its own university, the remaining 50% will be covered by the State budget.
