Uzbekistan Senate approves dismissal of Central Bank Chairman

The Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has approved the dismissal of Mamarizo Nurmurodov, Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, following a proposal from the President. The Senate's press service confirmed the decision.

Nurmurodov has held the position since 2017. The specific reasons for his dismissal remain undisclosed at this time.

For reference, Mamarizo Nurmurodov, born in 1960 in the Samarkand region, holds higher education qualifications. In 1977, he entered the Tashkent Institute of National Economy and graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Economics and Finance in 1982. He taught at the Tashkent Institute of National Economy from 1982-1985. From 1985 to 1988, he earned a candidate degree in economic sciences from the Moscow Finance Institute.

Between 1989 and 1993, Nurmurodov worked as an associate professor at both the Tashkent Institute of National Economy and the Tashkent Financial Institute. He then held various prominent positions, including Director of the Scientific Research Center and Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank, from 1993 to 2000. From 2000 to 2004, he served as Minister of Finance and, from 2004 to 2006, as governor of the Samarkand region. Afterward, he worked as an advisor to the Chairman of the Central Bank until 2017, when he was appointed Chairman of the Central Bank.

Earlier, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan submitted a proposal to the Senate to dismiss Nurmurodov from his post.
