47897In 2025, Uzbekistan, along with many other countries, announced that Ramadan will be 29 days long and will be celebrated on March 30. The Muslim Office provided an explanation for the fact that Ramadan will be 29 days long.
It was reported that just as Gregorian calendar months have 28 or 29 and 30 or 31 days, Hijri months, including Ramadan, can sometimes have 29 or 30 days.
“The difference between the Hijri month and the Gregorian month is that, for example, March is always 31 days long, while the Hijri months are related to the new moon. The number of days in a month is determined by the sighting of the moon,” the report says.
Therefore, the number of days in the month of Ramadan is the number of days that fasting is observed, and that is considered a complete fast.
"Therefore, it is not right for anyone to claim that Ramadan will always be thirty days. Saying so contradicts the authentic hadiths and the consensus of scholars," the report says.
It is noted that even if the month of Ramadan is 29 days long, it is considered a complete month of fasting according to the verses and hadiths.
It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that Uzbeks would have 2 days off in connection with Eid al-Fitr.
