Namangan city mayor Anvar Otakhojaev, who previously requested the removal of illegally installed traffic radars, has now been asked to address outstanding fines related to government vehicles. This development follows a response letter from Mansur Gaziev, head of the Regional Traffic Safety Department, which was leaked on social media.
The response letter defends the effectiveness of the radars, stating that serious accidents have significantly decreased in monitored areas. For example, in Davlatobod and Yangi Namangan, 13 fatalities were recorded last year, whereas no deaths have been reported in 2025 thus far.
Additionally, Gaziev’s letter highlights the traffic violations committed by city administration vehicles:
- A Captiva belonging to the Namangan mayor’s office has accumulated 47 violations since 2024, with 11 unpaid fines totaling over 8 million UZS.
- Four other city-owned vehicles have 41 unpaid fines amounting to 18.75 million UZS.
- Six vehicles from the Davlatobod and Yangi Namangan district administrations have 46 unpaid fines, totaling 16.3 million UZS.
In total, 87 fines remain unsettled across municipal government vehicles.
Given these findings, Gaziev has called on the mayor’s office to comply with Article 8 of the Traffic Law, which outlines local authorities’ responsibilities for traffic regulations. He urged Otakhojaev to take corrective action and ensure that all fines are paid.
The letter further requests that local authorities critically discuss repeated violations and enforce penalties to maintain accountability.
Previously, in Andijan city, a man shot at 52 radar cameras using a pneumatic rifle, causing over 1.147 billion UZS in damage.
