Putin appoints new ambassador to Uzbekistan

Alexey Erkhov has been appointed as Russia’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan. The decree was signed today, September 5, by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The corresponding decree was published on the official legal information portal.

“The appointment of Alexey Vladimirovich Erkhov as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uzbekistan is hereby confirmed", the decree stated.

Aleksei Erkhov was born on October 28, 1960, in Moscow. In 1983, he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and began his diplomatic career the same year. From 1983 to 2000, Erkhov worked at Russian embassies in Morocco, Egypt, and Israel. Between 2000 and 2003, he served in the Presidential Administration of Russia as the Head and Deputy Head of the Department for Preparing foreign policy events. From 2003 to 2006, he was an adviser at the Russian Embassy in Syria, and from 2006 to 2009, Deputy Director of the Secretariat Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2009 to 2015, Erkhov held the position of Consul General of Russia in Istanbul. Between 2015 and 2017, he headed the Situational Crisis Center of the Russian Foreign Ministry. From 2017 to 2025, he served as Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, during which time he was awarded the Order of "Friendship".

It is worth noting that Oleg Malginov, Russia’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan, completed his diplomatic mission in mid-June of this year.
