7156It is proposed to reduce the number of members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 100 to 65 and to decrease the number of deputy speakers of the Legislative Chamber from 7 to 2. This is outlined in the draft law "On amendments and additions to some legal documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan," which has been submitted to the parliament.
Within this document:
• Assisting representative bodies of local state power in carrying out their activities, as the powers of the Senate entail;
• Fulfilling the powers of the Oliy Majlis to enact laws during the dissolution of the Legislative Chamber;
• Reviewing the law within 60 days from the date of its receipt by the Senate, etc.
It is noted that these changes are aimed at aligning the powers of the Senate with the new version of the Constitution.
Furthermore, 4 members of the Senate will be elected from each administrative-territorial unit, and 9 members will be appointed by the President (totaling 65 members). The number of senators working on a permanent basis will remain at the current 25.
Additionally, there is a proposal to terminate the commission of the Senate that supervises the activities of prosecutor's offices.
The following powers of the Senate will be abolished and designated as the exclusive prerogatives of the Legislative Chamber:
• Oversight of the implementation of the state budget and review of the Chamber of Accounts' report;
• Reviewing and approving the Prime Minister's nomination based on the President's submission;
• Hearing the reports of the Prime Minister, members of the Government, and the annual report of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The head of the faction is entitled to the same benefits as the deputy speaker, concerning material, medical, and transport services.
A reminder that it was previously reported that the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan have the authority to dissolve themselves within the framework of the aforementioned draft law.
