Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan are set to sign an intergovernmental agreement on a strategic partnership to advance and transmit green energy. This development will take place during the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), according to a statement by the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, Parviz Shahbozov, published on October 18.

Minister Shahbozov emphasized the importance of creating a joint venture headquartered in Baku, as well as formalizing the strategic partnership agreement. The collaboration focuses on the development and transmission of green energy among Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

The agreement aims to explore the feasibility of connecting the energy systems of the three countries. A key component of this plan is the proposal to lay a high-voltage cable under the Caspian Sea and across neighboring territories, facilitating the supply of green energy from Central Asia to Europe.

Additionally, the draft agreement highlights cooperation in improving the quality of energy supplies to Europe and other regions, adopting new technologies, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting energy-saving services.

Earlier this year, in May 2024, during the Tashkent International Investment Forum, the energy ministers of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation. This memorandum set the groundwork for connecting the energy systems of the three nations.
