In Khorezm region, a man who attempted to kill an acquaintance in revenge for sending indecent, romantic text messages to his sister has been sentenced to seven years in prison. QALAMPIR.UZ reviewed the court ruling.
According to the case materials, the 28-year-old defendant was working as a labor migrant in the Russian Federation in late June 2025 when his sister informed him that a fellow villager had sent her romantic text messages and proposed a sexual relationship. Enraged by the messages, the man returned to Uzbekistan and planned to take revenge on the victim.
At around 1:45 a.m. on July 23, 2025, the defendant took a kitchen knife he had purchased in advance and encountered the victim on the road. Under the pretext of giving him a ride home, he invited the victim into his car. Taking advantage of the situation after the vehicle ran out of fuel, the defendant stabbed the victim in the neck. When he attempted to strike a second time, the victim defended himself with his hands and managed to escape.
Due to timely medical assistance, the victim’s life was saved. A forensic medical examination concluded that the injuries were life-threatening and could have resulted in death had the knife penetrated slightly deeper.
The case was heard on December 18, 2025, at the Yangiarik District Criminal Court. The defendant was found guilty under Article 97, Part 1 (intentional homicide) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.
During the trial, the defendant and his defense counsel filed an appeal seeking to reclassify the offense under a lesser article. However, on January 28 of this year, the appellate panel of the Khorezm Regional Court reviewed the case. After examining all circumstances, evidence, witness testimonies, and expert conclusions, the appellate court determined that the defendant’s actions had been correctly assessed as attempted intentional murder. As a result, the first-instance verdict was upheld, and the seven-year prison sentence remained in force.
It is worth noting that earlier reports stated that in Fergana, a man stabbed his one-year-old daughter to death.
