34404The former rector of Akfa University (now Central Asian University), Bekhzod Jalilov, rejected the accusations made by the new leadership of the Higher Education Institution. He accused Abdujabbar Abduvahidov, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Higher Education, of tarnishing his reputation and making threats. Jalilov advised him to focus on the development of the university and asked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to ensure his safety. Jalilov wrote about this in his official statement.
Earlier, videos showing a quarrel between the head of Central Asian University (formerly Akfa University) and parents circulated on social networks, sparking numerous discussions. The university's press service issued an official response, blaming former rector Bekhzod Jalilov and accusing him of fraud.
In response, Bekhzod Jalilov presented his side of the story to the public as the second party involved. He called the accusations against him groundless.
"The current university leadership accuses me of using the company 'Study for Success,' which I founded in 2015, to enter into a mutually beneficial agreement with Akfa University without obtaining prior consent from the university's founders," Jalilov stated.
He clarified that starting in 2021, "Study for Success" LLC, like many other educational centers in the republic, prepared students for OTM, including the "Part-time" program, and organized entrance exams based on a memorandum and cooperation agreement with the university. In this regard, Akfa University guaranteed admission to the second stage for students who completed the "International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies" program, as this preparatory course was considered equivalent to the foundation year. Contrary to the university's statement, Bekhzod Jalilov asserted that the founders of Akfa University, including Jahangir Ortiqkhojayev himself, were aware of this process.
Jahangir Obidovich's nephew also participated in this program and paid the tuition fees to "Study for Success" LLC, not to the university. Given these facts, it is incorrect to claim that the founders were unaware," Jalilov emphasized.
The former rector also cited disagreements in university policy with Abdujabbar Abduvahidov, who identified himself as the chairman of the supervisory board, as the reason for his resignation from university management.
According to Jalilov, the funds promised by the founders were not allocated during his tenure. Representatives of the "Akfa" group of companies did not provide any financial support, while Jalilov himself contributed $100,000 to the university.
"After I stepped down from the position of rector and Abdujabbar Abduvahidov (a relative of Jahangir Obidovich) became actively involved in the university's affairs, there were changes in the approach to financing the university. Jahangir Obidovich Ortiqkhojayev's enterprises began allocating funds for the purchase of equipment, books, and educational materials necessary for the educational process at the university," explained the former rector.
Additionally, Bekhzod Jalilov claimed that Abdujabbar Abduvahidov demanded the closure of temples built in accordance with international standards (for Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists), used offensive language, insulted him, and even threatened him with physical violence.
"Using his connections, Abdujabbar Abduvahidov literally forced the prosecutors to open a criminal case against me. In May, I was interrogated multiple times by the prosecutor's office on false accusations, specifically the theft of university funds. These charges were not substantiated. In June, law enforcement officials investigated my alleged involvement in religious and political extremist Islamic movements. However, this accusation was not substantiated either. Furthermore, Abduvahidov coerced former university employees into filing complaints against me, threatening to terminate the employment of those who did not comply with his demands," the former rector recounted.
Jalilov also appealed to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to ensure the safety of himself and his family in the country.
For reference, Abdujabbar Abduvahidov served as the advisor to the President from August 2018 to August 2022. Prior to that, he held positions as the rector of the Presidential Academy of Public Administration, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in 2011-2012, and the international Westminster University in Tashkent from 2002 to 2011.
