The traditional chess tournament in memory of Vugar Gashimov has concluded in the city of Shusha, Azerbaijan.

The winners and prize recipients of the rapid and blitz competitions were determined based on the combined results of both tournaments. A total of eight grandmasters participated in this event, which was held for the 10th time.

Nodirbek Abdusattorov scored 10 points in the blitz matches. Yan Nepomnyashchiy from Russia claimed second place, while Aravindh Chidambaram from India took third. In the rapid matches, Abdusattorov, with 8 points, finished in fourth place.

He was just one point short of winning the championship. Yan Nepomnyashchiy, who scored one point more than Abdusattorov, became the champion of this 10th-anniversary tournament.

For reference, the Uzbekistan men’s team won the bronze medal at the 45th Chess Olympiad, held in Budapest, Hungary. Abdusattorov was a member of that team. The participants were warmly welcomed at Tashkent International Airport, where the team leader, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, addressed the crowd, expressing his commitment to bringing the top prize home at the 2026 Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan.
