In recent years, armed conflicts, ecological and technological disasters, economic crises, "trade wars," terrorism, and extremism have increasingly intensified across various regions of the world. In such complex circumstances, strengthening parliamentary involvement and influence in preserving peace, promoting social development, and ensuring justice has become a global necessity. Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted these points today, April 7, during the plenary session of the 150th-anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Tashkent.

Mirziyoyev emphasized that conflicts in various parts of the world pose serious threats to global and regional peace and security. He reiterated Uzbekistan’s unwavering stance on resolving any disputes solely through diplomacy and peaceful negotiations.

“We hope that the ongoing negotiation process concerning the situation around Ukraine will undoubtedly yield positive results,” the President stated.

He further stressed the importance of addressing pressing issues based on universally recognized norms of international law, including the UN Charter and its resolutions.

“For instance, the only just solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict lies in implementing the principle of ‘two states for two peoples,’” Mirziyoyev added.

Mirziyoyev also touched upon neighboring Afghanistan, expressing the need to prevent the country’s isolation on the international stage. He advocated for constructive dialogue with the current government and viewing Afghanistan as an integral part of Central Asia and a land of new opportunities. He emphasized the role of parliaments in supporting this approach.

“Overall, Uzbekistan recognizes the United Nations as a universal and unparalleled global structure. We fully support UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ systematic efforts to deeply reform the organization and enhance its capacity.

Furthermore, we wholeheartedly commend the Eurasian group’s declaration dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II,” the President concluded.
