Man detained for growing 517 poppy plants in Namangan (video)

A man was detained in Chust district of Namangan region after 517 poppy plants were found growing in his household garden. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the case.
According to the ministry, on May 23 this year, officers of the Chust district internal affairs department conducted an operation based on operational information. During the operation, the house and yard of a citizen living in the Qayirma mahalla of Chust district were inspected in the presence of witnesses.
The inspection found that the homeowner had been growing and cultivating 517 poppy plants on his land plot.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 270 of the Criminal Code, which covers the cultivation of prohibited crops. Preliminary investigative actions are underway.
Earlier, it was reported that people growing more than 100 cannabis plants in the yards of their homes had been detained in Bukhara.
