On August 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev toured the new airport built on the site of the Tashkent-Sharqiy airfield, the presidential press service reported.
Construction of the airport began in 2017 and now covers 561 hectares. A four-kilometer runway and three taxiways have been renovated to accommodate even the heaviest aircraft. An apron for 20 aircraft has been built, along with hangars capable of housing Boeing 787s, A320s, business jets, and helicopters. According to the press service, these facilities will ensure proper climate control and safety for aircraft throughout the year.

The airport features new VIP and CIP terminals, with the CIP terminal designed to handle 100 passengers per hour and equipped with shops and restaurants. Facilities for official receptions, meetings, and briefings have also been created in the VIP terminal.
The airport will be equipped with advanced radio engineering and meteorological systems meeting ICAO Category III-A standards, enabling takeoffs and landings in adverse weather conditions.
Thanks to its strategic location, the airport is expected to become a key transport hub for Tashkent and the new city of New Tashkent. Officials noted that the facility will support international travel, improve conditions for foreign investors, boost economic ties, and create new jobs.

During the tour, President Mirziyoyev said:
“We have been preparing for many years and have built such an airport. This is another milestone for our statehood. Here, guests and aircraft arriving in our country will be provided with high-quality service. As a result, the load on Tashkent International Airport will be eased. God willing, we plan to build a large complex for that airport in another location. Overall, we have launched major projects in all our regions. May God protect our peace and grant prosperity to our people.”
It is worth noting that a new airport was also built in the Arnasay district of the Jizzakh region, located on the banks of Aydarkul. Its runway was first tested by a CASA C295W military transport aircraft. The facility is expected to become a transport hub for a future resort complex, boosting tourism and travel to the region.
