Mirziyoyev receives Turkmen Foreign Minister

1792On January 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, who visited Uzbekistan as part of Uzbek-Turkmen political consultations. The press service of the President shared details of the meeting.
Minister Meredov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the People's Council.
Discussions focused on enhancing Uzbek-Turkmen relations, emphasizing friendship, good-neighborliness, and strategic partnership. The following key points were highlighted:
- Economic Cooperation: Bilateral trade exceeded $1.1 billion in 2024. Joint construction of the "Shavot-Tashovuz" border trade zone continues.
- Sectoral Collaboration: Progress in industrial cooperation, energy, transport, logistics, agriculture, and water management.
- Cultural Exchanges: Expansion of interregional ties and cultural-humanitarian interactions.
Minister Meredov expressed gratitude on behalf of Turkmenistan’s leadership for the presentation of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s book "Hakyda Göwheri" ("The Pearl of Thought") in Uzbek in Tashkent.
Discussions also included preparations for upcoming high-level visits, the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian leaders, and summits in the "Central Asia Plus" format. Additionally, views were exchanged on international policy matters.
This visit follows an informal meeting on January 25 between President Mirziyoyev and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov at the "Amirsoy" resort complex, further highlighting Uzbekistan's active diplomatic engagement in the region.
