Mirziyoyev participates in SCO summit

4212Today, July 4, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, Kazakhstan, as reported by the President's press service.
The summit was attended by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Acting President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mokhber, President of China Xi Jinping, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, and Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Executive Committee Ruslan Mirzayev.
During the meeting, leaders exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues and discussed prospects for further expanding multilateral cooperation within the SCO framework.
"In such a challenging situation, it is crucial to maintain and further strengthen our commitment to the principles that underpin the SCO. Thanks to these principles, the Organization has achieved significant milestones, earned high prestige, and established a stabilizing role in international affairs. We must strengthen the cohesion of the 'SCO family,' consistently implement the principle of joint development, and make the most of the new opportunities that are emerging," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The President also emphasized the need to develop an inclusive transport system in the "East-West" and "North-South" directions to harness the economic potential of the SCO countries effectively.
"Developing diversified transport corridors is a key condition for the sustainable development of our entire region," the President stated.
Additionally, Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, noting its direct impact on regional stability.
In his closing remarks, Mirziyoyev congratulated President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China on assuming the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The summit concluded with the adoption of the Astana Declaration and several important multilateral documents aimed at further strengthening partnerships in various fields of cooperation.
It is noteworthy that President Mirziyoyev had arrived in Astana earlier to participate in the Council of Heads of State meeting of the SCO and the "SCO plus" format meeting.
