Uzbek and Russian leaders hold talks on cooperation and development

On September 2, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, China, the press service of the Uzbek leader reported.

At the start of the meeting, President Putin warmly congratulated Mirziyoyev and the multinational people of Uzbekistan on Independence Day, wishing them well-being, sustainable development, and prosperity.

The leaders discussed ways to further expand and strengthen the Uzbek-Russian comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance relations, building on agreements reached during previous high-level dialogues.

They emphasized the importance of adopting coordinated measures to maintain momentum in trade, economic, and investment cooperation.

Special attention was given to accelerating the preparation and implementation of projects in priority sectors of the economy, as well as promoting cooperation between regions and through established joint industrial parks.

The meeting also highlighted the effective cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, particularly in culture, art, science, and education.

Mirziyoyev and Putin exchanged views on matters of international significance.

For context, President Mirziyoyev is visiting China from August 30 to September 3 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During his visit, he will also participate in the ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II on September 3.

The celebrations in Beijing will be attended by heads of state and government from countries including Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Nepal, Maldives, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, the Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Serbia, Slovakia, Cuba, and Myanmar.

Earlier today, as part of the official visit, President Mirziyoyev held talks with President Xi Jinping, with members of the official delegations present, during which he extended an invitation to Xi Jinping to visit Uzbekistan.
