Mirziyoyev offers condolences to the Pakistani people

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, sent his condolences to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif following the deaths and injuries of many people caused by severe storms and floods in northwestern Pakistan, the president’s press service reported.

Mirziyoyev extended his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured.

It is worth noting that as a result of severe storms in northern Pakistan, which triggered widespread flooding, at least 330 people had died as of August 16. This included 307 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 11 in Azad Kashmir. Rescuers evacuated 1,300 tourists stranded in the mountains. According to the latest reports, the number of victims has exceeded 350.

The floods damaged houses, factories, and infrastructure in such areas as Buner, Swat, Mansehra, Bajaur, and Battagram. Several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have been declared disaster zones. Heavy rain is expected to continue in the northern region of the country until August 21.
