Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan sign key agreements to deepen strategic ties

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has concluded his official state visit to Azerbaijan, according to the press service of the President.

On July 2, President Mirziyoyev held fruitful negotiations with President Ilham Aliyev in Baku.

During the visit, the second session of the Supreme Interstate Council took place, where both sides discussed ways to further strengthen Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations, deepen their strategic partnership and alliance, and expand practical cooperation across various sectors.

A substantial package of bilateral agreements was signed, covering diverse areas of collaboration.

As part of the cultural and diplomatic program, the two leaders jointly laid the foundation stone of the “Uzbekistan” park in Baku and inaugurated the new building of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Azerbaijani capital.

On July 3, the Uzbek President, accompanied by his Azerbaijani counterpart, visited a joint textile factory in the city of Khonjendy and explored the historical and architectural complex “Imarat” in the city of Agdam.

The following day, President Mirziyoyev took part in the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, where he outlined Uzbekistan’s priority areas for regional partnership and proposed a number of new initiatives.

On the sidelines of the summit, he also held bilateral meetings with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, acting deputy prime minister of the Taliban’s interim government in Afghanistan.

President Mirziyoyev departed for Tashkent from Fuzuli International Airport, where he was seen off by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture Adil Kerimli and other officials.
