Mirziyoyev congratulates Modi

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 12, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

At the start of the conversation, the head of state congratulated the prime minister and the people of India on the upcoming national holiday — Independence Day — wishing them peace, stability, and prosperity.

The leaders discussed key issues concerning the further development of the Uzbek-Indian strategic partnership and multifaceted cooperation. They expressed satisfaction that practical cooperation is advancing rapidly in line with previously reached agreements, and that active and productive dialogue continues at various levels.

Special attention was given to the promotion and implementation of joint projects in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, digital economy, energy, mining, agriculture, construction, tourism, and other sectors. The parties also discussed developing effective transport and transit routes within the framework of the North–South corridor.

The importance of successfully holding the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission in Tashkent was emphasized. The leaders proposed jointly organizing cultural and film days, as well as expanding exchanges at the regional level.

The President of Uzbekistan and the Prime Minister of India also exchanged views on the regional agenda and discussed plans for future high-level events.

For reference, India gained independence on August 15, 1947. Shavkat Mirziyoyev last met with Narendra Modi on October 23 last year in Kazan, Russia, during the BRICS summit.
