On October 15, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Yakkasaray district of Tashkent to inspect the reconstruction works carried out on Shota Rustaveli street. Together with representatives of state and public organizations, the President traveled by bus to observe the newly created conveniences and held a sincere conversation with passengers. The information was reported by the Presidential Press Service.
It is known that the development of road infrastructure and the creation of convenient transport movement remain an urgent issue for Tashkent, where the population is steadily growing, and the city area is expanding. For this reason, smooth roads and modern bridges are being constructed, while existing ones are being repaired in accordance with contemporary requirements.

Shota Rustaveli street is one of the main roads connecting several districts of the capital. To improve traffic convenience, nearly seven kilometers of the section stretching from Mirobod street to Choshtepa street have been reconstructed.
The road is now divided into ten lanes, six of which are designated for vehicles, two are dedicated lanes for buses, and the remaining two are intended for car parking.

Based on the advanced experience of developed countries, a dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane has been introduced in the middle of the street for the first time in Tashkent. This system has accelerated public transport movement and improved convenience for passengers.
As a result of this $19.2 million project, passenger traffic has increased from 2,500 to 6,000 people per hour. In addition, the road’s capacity has expanded to accommodate up to 40,000 vehicles per day, while the average speed has risen from 23 to 30 kilometers per hour.
It is noted that these improvements have enhanced safety and reduced the number of road traffic accidents. Within the framework of the project, 21 new bus stops and 463 “smart” traffic lights were installed, and an intelligent transport system was implemented. Conditions have also been created for vehicles to park along the roadside.

In addition, bicycle lanes, green areas, and irrigation and drainage systems have been established. At the same location, presentations were made on projects to extend dedicated bus lanes across Tashkent and to create transport hubs around the city.
’’If we had not built metro lines and brought in new buses, transportation in Tashkent would be difficult today. Therefore, to ensure people’s satisfaction, we are improving roads and developing public transport. We will continue such efforts in all our cities,’’ the President said.
The Head of State instructed the responsible officials to further enhance convenience for public transport users, reduce traffic congestion, and ensure effective connectivity between the city and New Tashkent.
