Fatih Terim, a renowned Turkish football specialist, might be appointed as the coach of the Uzbekistan national team, which has qualified for the World Cup 2026 recently. The national team management has sent an official offer to Milan’s former coach, the Turkish “Mynet” news agency reported.
According to the report, the management aims to bring a more professional and experienced coach for the national team as it will be participating in the World Cup for the first time in its history. A 71-year-old Terim has asked for time to review the offer. If he agrees, he will gain the opportunity to take part in the World Cup for the first time as a coach. The term of the contract and salary were not revealed in the offer by the Uzbekistan Football Association. Once Terim gives his consent, he will begin training sessions and prepare the team for the World Cup 2026 to be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
It is worth noting that Fatih Terim participated in Euro-2008 and Euro-2016 tournaments with the Turkish national team and triumphed in the UEFA Cup with Galatasaray FC. He also worked in such clubs as Fiorentina, Milan, and Panathinaikos; however, he has never coached a team in the World Cups.
Earlier, Uzbekistan reportedly contacted Joachim Low with an offer but received a rejection.
